Air Impact Wrench
An air impact wrench is generally used to remove lugnuts from a tire, and put them back on quickly. These tools are much faster than your standard tire iron, but can also be quite costly as well. You will also see impact wrenches being used in construction and factory workers.
A pneumatic impact wrench comes in 3/8 in, 1 in, 1/2 in, and 1/4 in sizes.
The most popular of these wrenches is the air impact wrench. While there are electric and cordless models available, they simply don’t measure up to the speed and power of an air wrench. However, they do have a big disadvantage in the fact that you need an air compressor to run them, which can be costly. The hose from the compressor must also be long enough to reach into the areas where you will be working.
I have listed the three various types of impact wrenches on the market, to give you a better understanding of what is available.
Ingersoll Rand 2115QTiMAX 3/8 inch Impactool – this is a pneumatic wrench that is simply one of the best in its class. It has a precise speed control trigger switch that allows you to control torque and it is extremely light.
Milwaukee 2451-22 3/8-Inch Cordless Impact Wrench – this has a really neat feature that tells you how much run time you have left on your battery, so you know exactly when it will die. All in all a good wrench for its class, but it lacks the power of an electric or air wrench.
Hitachi WH22 Electric Impact Wrench – this is one of the more quiet models around, for the kind of actual power that it delivers. I like the pin lock system that keeps the sockets firmly in place and it doesn’t vibrate as much as other models I have tried. A really good wrench for the price.
